Το West Side Story δεν είναι απλώς μια υπόθεση αστικής τοπογραφίας, ένα οδοιπορικό στις δυτικές συνοικίες της Θεσσαλονίκης. Αφηγείται μια ιστορία επιμελώς κρυμμένη, μέσα από ένα διεισδυτικό βλέμμα στο λαϊκό χωνευτήρι της πόλης, εκεί όπου οι γειτονιές μεγάλωναν φέροντας το παράπονο της ανισότητας στον κόρφο τους. Είναι, κατά μια έννοια, η αφανής πλευρά μιας πόλης, ίσως κάθε πόλης, στην οποία οφείλονται πολλά περισσότερα από όσα διστακτικά και όψιμα αναγνωρίζονται. Είναι ένα λοξό αλλά κατατοπιστικό καθρέφτισμα στον άλλο μας εαυTό, τον οποίο, συχνά, επιλέγουμε να αγνοούμε.

West Side Story is not just a study of urban topography,
a journey through the western neighborhoods of Thessaloniki. It
tells a somehow concealed story, through a penetrating gaze into the
city’s crucible of people, where neighborhoods grew bearing the grievance of inequality in their bosom. It is, in a sense, the invisible side of a city - perhaps every city - deserving far more acknowledgement than it is hesitantly and belatedly granted. It is an oblique yet illuminating reflection of our other self, the one we often choose to ignore.
